“Mr. Perna is a superb theology teacher, obviously doing the work of God. His knowledge is great, and on rare occasion when he is not able to answer a student’s question, he makes an effort to research the answer. He makes the material interesting because he is clearly excited about what he is teaching (and often tells us so). In addition, Mr. Perna is able to have fun with his students creating a great classroom environment.”

“For the two years he taught me, he not only taught a challenging class, but sprinkled in various cultural references as well. In addition to our textbooks, he often gives quotes and material from other sources, including Brant Pitre, Blessed John Paul II, and Scott Hahn. It is clear that Mr. Perna is excited to be a Catholic. Furthermore, he has participated in many Walks for Life and discusses his experiences from those. He is an ardent supporter of the faith and a strong soldier for Christ.”

“Mr. Perna was my theology teacher my sophomore and junior year at St. Dominic Savio Catholic High School. My sophomore year was my first exposure to theology. It was hard and Mr. Perna made it harder but not because he wanted to be mean but because he wanted to challenge his students. And he did. He challenged me daily. He didn’t let up; he wasn’t going to let me give up. I’m not always an easy student to teach, but he figured me out and stuck with me. He did everything you expect from a good teacher and more to help me succeed in his class. He kept me motivated and despite struggling I enjoyed his class. By my junior year I looked forward to theology and I know it was because of him. He didn’t allow me to give up and certainly didn’t make the work easier for me, but he knew what he needed to do to keep me motivated. I really appreciate everything Mr. Perna has done for me and know that wherever he ends up teaching the students will be blessed to have him.”

“When first coming into this class, I was nervous. It was hard at first, but if you took good notes, paid attention in class and studied hard, you could get good grades. That’s a good thing though because it prepared us not only to be knowledgeable about Theology, but also to know what it takes to be a good student. This class definitely prepared me to be more confident in defending my faith and has helped me understand it more clearly, so that I may teach others too. Thanks for being such a great teacher Mr. Perna!”
