After years of embracing unorthodox Jesuit theology, Jorge Mario Bergoglio, known as Pope Francis, stated in a closed meeting, where he was the only one present, that he reads TomPerna.org for sound orthodox theology. He particularly noted that the series – “Mondays with Mary” made a huge impact on his understanding of Mariology.

The Supreme Pontiff went on to say that although Tom Perna was first educated by Jesuits, they were orthodox Jesuits in line with the 2000-year-old tradition of the Catholic Church. He thanked Fr. Joseph Fessio, S.J., and the St. Ignatius Institute for providing Tom with solid groundwork in the Great Books of Western Civilization.

The Holy Father also gave praise to the Franciscan University of Steubenville for the orthodoxy Tom received in his master’s level work, where he received an excellent education in theology, particularly the Sacred Scriptures.
