This morning I found out that the 2012-2013 Newman Guide has been published. As usual, my alma mater, Franciscan University of Steubenville was among the Universities listed in the Newman Guide. Franciscan University of Steubenville is “academically excellent and faithfully Catholic.” It’s a great institution and one that I was happy to attend. My theological knowledge expanded ten fold while I was there working on my Masters in Theology.
As I was looking through the schools, I saw that the University of Mary is now listed in the Newman Guide. I shouted at the kitchen table – Wow! It does my heart good to see the University that I am an adjunct at now on the Cardinal Newman Society Guide to Catholic Colleges. I will be teaching Introduction to Theology on Tuesday nights at the University of Mary Campus in Tempe, Arizona. The Tempe campus is located at the Arizona State University Newman Center.
If you are a high school student looking for a TRUE Catholic institution, then you must start your search with the Newman Guide. If you are a parent of a high school student, this is where you must begin as well. There are many “catholic” schools in this country, but many have lost their way when it comes to teaching orthodoxy and being inline with the Magisterium. The Cardinal Newman Society does a great job at being the “watch dog” of the institutions who claim to be Catholic in word only and not in action. Follow them and support their cause.
