Pope Emeritus Reads

Wow – you wouldn’t believe what happened on this day! Of all days, this happens today.

While taking a late lunch break at the parish, I checked my gmail account and saw an email titled – “Greetings from Rome.” When I opened up the email, I realized that it was from Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI!

In the email, he told me that he reads my blog posts quite often and finds them very interesting, theologically orthodox, and faithful to the Magisterium. He said that he began reading my blog about 6 months ago after seeing it on

He stated that his favorite blog posts of mine are the posts on the Doctors of the Church, “Mondays with Mary”, and the ones I have done on his predecessor, Pope St. John Paul II. He also asked me when I was going to write my first book because he would be interested in editing it for me. How cool is that!

At the end of his email, he said, “if people are not following your blog, they are truly missing out on solid Catholic theology.” What a compliment!

I am so fired up writing this to you, I can hardly sit still.

This is categorized under “Catholic Humor.” Today is April 1st – April Fools. 🙂

  2. Tom,
Yes! How inspiring and wonderful that Pope Emeritus Benedict has read and appreciated your Blog. Don’t forget to share that you began your Catholic higher educational journey at the University of San Francisco, St Ignatius Institute of the past. Thank you for continuing your Education at the Franciscan College in
Steubenville, Ohio. You are making a difference for Evangelization ! Thank you and I can’t wait to read your book !

  3. If it truly is His Holiness Emeritus, then that is such a blessing.

But without trying to take the joy out of the moment, and hating to sound like the cynic, are you 100% sure it really is Benedict that has e-mailed you? I could easily create a fake email address and claim to be Pope Francis. Know what i mean?

  4. Wow! What an honor to receive a letter from his former holiness Pope Benedict . How blessed you are and wanting to edit ur book that blows me away! You have the best of the best!!! God bless you and keep up the good job! I am so happy for u. Lol!

  5. Wow! That is such a great inspiration for you! Fact is I am inspired too! That is just plain awesome. And he wants to edit it for you, what a compliment!

  6. Congratulations Mr. Perna. This is high praise and acknowledgement of your efforts. After the Holy Father Emeritus finishes his edit, I look forward to reading the book. Your doctoral thesis, I presume!

    • Hey Dick – You need to read the Fine Print on this blog post. It was an rather good and lavish April Fools joke. Last year Pope Francis read my blog.

In truth, I am working on a book and some writing projects as well. Let you know when they are released.

  7. Wow I got so excited for you I for one don’t want to miss your post sure when is the book coming out? That is a challenge you must seriously take up Lucy
