Every once in a while, something comes up on a Monday where I am unable to write a “Mondays with Mary” – one of those Monday’s happened to be yesterday. So, today, I am going to give you a brief “Mondays with Mary” focusing on a prayer written by an amazing saint and a title of Mary that are close to my heart. The individual is Saint John Bosco and the title of Mary is – Our Lady, Help of Christians (<– read this!).

The reason why I am writing about Our Lady under this title specifically today is because the feast for Our Lady, Help of Christians is this Friday, May 24. I learned about this feast and the Marian title years ago when I first read about the life of St. John Bosco. Don Bosco would often turn to Our Lady under this title and she would never disappointed him. I would highly encourage you to read my post on this Marian title above to learn more.

On a more personal note, last year, when I took over our religious education program at the parish, I dedicated the new program to St. John Bosco and Our Lady, Help of Christians. In every classroom, there is a laminated picture of Don Bosco and Our Lady. During the year, I would often invoke Don Bosco’s intercession and Our Lady, Help of Christians intercession when things were difficult and I was feeling the struggles of ministry.

I hope that you will find comfort in these words and invoke the intercessory prayer when needed –

Most Holy Virgin Mary, Help of Christians,
how sweet it is to come to your feet
imploring your perpetual help.
If earthly mothers cease not to remember their children,
how can you, the most loving of all mothers forget me?
Grant then to me, I implore you,
your perpetual help in all my necessities,
in every sorrow, and especially in all my temptations.
I ask for your unceasing help for all who are now suffering.
Help the weak, cure the sick, convert sinners.

Grant through your intercessions many vocations to the religious life.
Obtain for us, O Mary, Help of Christians,
that having invoked you on earth we may love and eternally thank you in heaven. Amen.
