If you have not heard yet, Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen will be beatified on December 21, 2019, in Peoria, Illinois. To say that the faithful Catholics of the US Church are happy would be a huge understatement. So many of us that have a devotion to him or have read his works over the years are simply ecstatic over the news.
This is something that should have happened years ago, but due to the lawsuits between Peoria and New York City dioceses, the entire canonization process was put on hold. I remember when I first heard about the delay and how upset and ticked off I was when ane how it all went down. So many of my adult students at the time were also upset and frustrated. Some of them remembered his show on television as young children. Others knew of him from seeing him speak in their dioceses in years past.
In the end, God’s will has prevailed and we will have our newest beatified American Saint very soon. I was telling my wife last night how excited I was about this news and that I could not wait to write this post and future posts around the time of his beatification in December.

Venerable Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen
If you have never read anything by the soon-to-be Blessed Fulton J. Sheen, I would highly encourage you to pick something up soon. You can also watch many, if not most of his Life is Worth Living shows on YouTube. Do you realize that he once won an Emmy for Most Outstanding Television Personality in 1953? He was also more popular than Milton Berle in the early days of television. He was the first person to preach on television.
In the hopes to encourage you to purchase some Fulton Sheen books or watch his show on YouTube, here are four articles that I have written about him from the past.
1. Saint Therese, Fulton Sheen, and Eleven Sermons
2. “Mondays with Mary” – Venerable Fulton J. Sheen on Mary and the Rosary
4. “Mondays with Mary” – Bishop Fulton Sheen and ‘The Assumption and the Modern World’
Also, don’t forget to purchase your Fulton Sheen Socks from Sock Religious and wear them on the day of his beatification.
