“Mondays with Mary” – The Marian Shrines of Fatima and Czestochowa

It’s been a couple of months since I have focused on the series that I started over the summer, that is, the explanation of the different National Marian Shrines across the globe. The last article I focused on this project was with the post titled, Our Lady of Bandra in India, on February 4, 2019.

I would like to return this project during the weeks ahead, however, for today, I am going to start this up again but giving you two Marian shrines that I have written in the past. Both are important Marian shrines; however, one is definitely more prominent than the other. For today, we are going to look at Our Lady of Fatima (Portugal) and Our Lady of Czestochowa (Poland), two Marian shrines that I would love to visit someday.

Below are excerpts from my posts on both of these Marian shrines. Below the excerpt is link of the entire article. If you have never read them in the past, I would encourage you to do so. Both play an important role not only in their respective countries Marian devotions, but throughout the world as well. It is my opinion that some of the things we are seeing in the world today, specifically, the fight over the family, was prophesied in the secrets of Fatima.

The genesis of the image, which has miracles surrounding it, is not completely known. However, according to some traditions within the Church, it is believed to be the portrait of Our Lady painted by St. Luke the Evangelist sometime after the Crucifixion of Our Lord.

It is believed that the image of Blessed Mother remained in the Holy Land for the early centuries of the Church, until St. Helena, the mother of Emperor Constantine found the image in the 4th century. History and tradition tell us that Constantine sent his mother to Jerusalem to locate certain relics of the Passion and Death of Jesus Christ after he legalized Christianity with the Edict of Milan. The image was carried to the city of Constantinople where Emperor Constantine built a church for the sacred image.

The apparitions at Fatima continue to be the most magnificent of all the Marian apparitions to affect the world in the modern era. Mary under her title, “Our Lady of the Rosary” at Fatima gave us specific instructions that would lead us closer to her son, Jesus Christ.

She asked that the Rosary be prayed on a daily basis; she asked that our daily sacrifices be offered up for the conversion of sinners; that we would adore the Blessed Sacrament more frequently; that there would be an increase of devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary; and an offering of the First Saturdays of Reparation.
